The Land Transport Authority (LTA) caught 10 drivers in Singapore providing illegal cross-border ride-hailing services in the past month.

They were caught at land checkpoints, as well as other areas, such as Bedok Reservoir, LTA said on Jan. 13.

All the vehicles were impounded.

The tip-offs amid the ongoing enforcement efforts were from the National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA) and National Taxi Association (NTA), LTA added.

162 vehicles impounded since July 2025

Since July 2025, checks on more than 3,000 vehicles have led to the impoundment of 162 vehicles, Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling wrote in an update in a social media post on the same day.

She added:

"While we continue to work closely with our Malaysian counterparts on enhancing cross-border travel, we urge commuters to only engage legal cross-border transport services to meet their travel needs. Commuters can be picked up anywhere in Singapore, with drop-offs at Larkin Sentral Terminal, Johor, through licensed cross-border taxi services currently provided by ComfortDelGro, Strides Premier, Trans-Cab and Prime."

She also wrote: "Protecting the safety of commuters, as well as the livelihoods of our local drivers are of utmost importance to us."

Drivers caught providing illegal ride-hailing services face up to S$3,000 fines, or up to six months’ jail, or both, and possible vehicle forfeiture.

Those who spot illegal ride-hailing services can report them online.
