New indie cinema Filmhouse will occupy the space at Golden Mile Tower in Beach Road that was vacated by The Projector after it shut down in August 2025, The Straits Times reported.

Investor found

An unnamed investor has hired a number of The Projector's core team members, and at least two of them will make a return and reprise their former roles.

ST reported that the man, dubbed a "cinephile", lives in Singapore and is a permanent resident and Chinese national.

He also appeared "undeterred" by the current en bloc negotiations for Golden Mile Tower, ST added.

He is not involved in film and is funding Filmhouse on his own.

Opening in early 2026

The three-screen space is slated to open in late January or early February.

It will partner with embassies holding national film festivals, which was previously carried out by The Projector, as well as screen new releases, foreign, art-house and retrospective films.

Background

The Projector was founded in 2014.

It abruptly ended operations in August 2025.

It raked up S$1.2 million in debt and entered voluntary liquidation.

The cinema operator was also known for deejay and comedy nights, which showcase live performances, which also took place at its other outlet at Cineleisure in Grange Road.
