An off-duty paramedic officer, on his way back to Singapore from Malaysia with his wife, assisted at an accident on the Causeway.

Speaking to Mothership, the paramedic's wife, who wished to stay anonymous, said the incident took place at around 3:40pm on Dec. 1.

While driving along the Causeway, the couple noticed a male motorcyclist lying down on the motorcycle lane.

Two to three Malaysian police officers were already with him when they arrived.

The couple pulled over at the road shoulder, and the paramedic officer immediately got out to help.

Though the victim was conscious, he was described to be in pain from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

He had suffered "significant trauma to his foot", and required urgent medical attention.

The paramedic stepped in to assess the victim's condition, cleaned and dressed his wounds, and also immobilised his arm.

Transported victim in their own car

Though a Malaysian ambulance had been called, it took some time to arrive.

Given the severity of the motorcyclist's injuries, the couple decided around 4:15pm to transport him to the Singapore checkpoint in their own vehicle.

"He was in pain and uncomfortable on the road," explained the man's wife, adding that her husband wore a hi-vis raincoat and ensured the victim's condition was stable before moving him.

The Malaysian police officers present also assisted in transferring the victim to the car.

The victim, initially hesitant as he preferred to seek treatment in Malaysia, eventually agreed to head to Singapore so he could receive timely medical attention.

ICA officers stepped in to help

Upon arriving at Woodlands checkpoint, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers immediately assisted the paramedic and his wife in supporting and stabilising the victim while they requested for a Singapore ambulance.

Shortly after, an ambulance arrived and the victim was handed over to Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedics.

In response to Mothership's queries, SCDF confirmed that at around 4:25pm that Monday, they were alerted to a road traffic accident at 21 Woodlands Crossing.

They conveyed one person to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
