A 47-year-old Singaporean, serving a 13-year sentence for his role in a “wife-sharing” rape ring, was sentenced on Tuesday (Dec. 23) to an additional eight weeks’ imprisonment for circulating intimate images online without consent.

The man, only identified as “O”, pleaded guilty to a charge for circulating obscene objects, namely intimate images of women posted on the Sammyboy Forum (SBF).

The eight-week jail term will run consecutively to his existing sentence, which he is currently serving, as reported by CNA.

Obscene images posted without consent

According to court documents seen by Mothership, investigations revealed that the accused had uploaded images of women in various states of undress or engaged in sexual acts onto SBF without their knowledge or consent between 2012 and 2019.

These offences also took place after the accused’s involvement in the rape ring.

Although the accused attempted to obscure the women’s identities by masking their faces with a white circle, their private parts remained exposed.

The images were also watermarked with a phrase asserting ownership before being posted publicly on the forum.

Sammyboy Forum

The accused first started a thread on SBF accessible to the public, titled “Wife Fantasy”, under SBF’s “The Asian Commercial Sex Scene” in April 2010.

In it, he also invited other like-minded men with fantasies about wives to contact him:

“Hi folks, i believe a lot of us have fantasies about other's wife and of their wife being fantasize by others. So would like to see if anyone is interested in sharing stories or pictures and videos but on a more discreet basis. PM me if u have similar fantasy. cheers.”

From 2012, he would also chat about his various sexual fantasies with other SBF users, including but not limited to chats about engaging in sexual acts with other individuals’ wives, after having drugged them, or while they were unconscious.

In the same year, he would then start posting at least four obscene images to SBF under the thread “Wifey Pics to Share”.

The thread was prefaced with the following introduction by the accused:

“Just wanna share some pics of my wife and hear comments from bros here.”

These images were uploaded over four separate posts and captured the woman (or women) in the nude and while engaged in sexual acts such as masturbation, sexual intercourse, or oral sex.

The thread drew 129 replies, while the accused’s wider forum posts related to wife-sharing received more than 2,500 responses overall from SBF users.

Additional jail time

At the time of investigations in 2020, several of these images could no longer be retrieved as the links to the images were not functioning, or as the images had since been removed from the forum.

Nevertheless, at least 19 images were recovered during investigations, of which 12 were deemed obscene in nature, depicting the women in the nude, whilst engaged in sexual acts, or both.

The Prosecution sought an extra sentence of eight to 10 weeks, arguing that the offence fell at the higher end of the sentencing range given the number of images involved and the prolonged duration of offending.

It was highlighted that the images were used to lure other like-minded individuals to circulate similar compromising material online

The Prosecution also emphasised that the women involved were individuals with whom the accused had been in intimate relationships and who had trusted him not to misuse their images in this manner.

Wife-sharing rape ring

The accused was previously convicted in 2023 on a charge of abetment of conspiracy to commit rape between 2010 and 2011, involving a network of men who shared their wives and drugged them before sexually assaulting them while they were unconscious.

He was one of five men found guilty of raping a co-conspirator’s unconscious, drugged wife on multiple occasions, as reported by Today.

The offences were uncovered in January 2020 after the woman discovered explicit images of herself on her husband’s phone that indicated the involvement of other men.

For those offences, he was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane, a sentence he is currently serving.

Outcome

The Prosecution noted that the present offence involved different victims, a different time period, and different legally protected interests, and therefore warranted a separate and consecutive sentence, according to court documents.

Defence lawyer Tan Jia Yi however, according to CNA, asked for an eight-week jail term to run concurrently with the man’s existing sentence.

She said that “despite everything that has happened”, O’s wife remained “supportive” of him, adding that he was using his time in prison to reflect on his actions and work on himself.

However, Judge Tan ordered the sentences to run consecutively, noting that a concurrent term would mean the man faced no additional consequences for his sustained criminal conduct.

This means that the additional term of eight weeks’ imprisonment will be served after the man completes his existing 13-year jail sentence, effectively extending the period he will remain incarcerated.
