A post on Complaint Singapore recently by a Facebook user, Ling, pointed out the increased number of lampposts near her flat at Queens Close.

The original post was deleted, but has since been put up.

Here's the most updated post:

Here are the lamps in question on Dec. 27.

Ling said she had sent multiple feedback about the proposed additional lamps to the town council a few months ago, but the lampposts were erected.

Her main complaints involved a waste of public resources, the glare into her bedroom, and the nearby, lesser-lit driveway.

According to her post, the lights were eventually turned off at 11:47 pm on Dec. 27.

When Mothership went down on Dec. 28 at around 10 pm, the lights were off.

Response

Responding to media queries from Mothership, the Tanjong Pagar Town Council said upgrading works under the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme are ongoing at Queens Close.

These include the upgrading of existing fitness equipment, as well as the installation of two Barrier-Free Access ramps to enhance accessibility for elderly residents and the wider community.

The area remains hoarded for safety reasons.

As for the lights, the town council told Mothership that they were switched on for testing purposes on the evening of Dec. 27.

"They have been programmed to operate at full brightness from 7pm to 10pm, and at 50 per cent brightness from 10pm to 7am, in accordance with the original design intent, to ensure adequate lighting for public safety once the fitness corner is operational."

They said they had verified that both the number of lampposts installed and lighting levels are "fully compliant" with Housing and Development Board (HDB) guidelines and all relevant regulatory requirements stipulated by the authorities.

They have also taken note of residents' feedback and will continue to review possible measures or design enhancements to mitigate any glare that may affect lower-floor units.

Separately, checks are being carried out on the lampposts along the adjacent service road to ensure they are functioning properly.

"The Town Council remains committed to balancing residents’ comfort with safety and accessibility needs and will continue to monitor the situation closely."
