660 new electric public buses to be progressively deployed from end-2026: LTA

660 new electric buses will be progressively deployed for passenger service from the end of 2026, replacing diesel buses that are reaching the end of their statutory lifespan.
Out of these, 360 will be single-deck buses, while 300 will be double-deck buses.
Six contracts for the new buses have been awarded by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), it said in a Dec. 15 statement.
Double-deck buses will have three doors
The new double-deck buses will have three doors and two staircases.
Both the double-deck and single-deck buses will boast a suite of features and safety systems.
Improved battery technology and capacity will give the new buses longer operating ranges.
Real-time audio and visual updates will be provided through a passenger information display system.
Bus captains will also be assisted by a number of safety systems.
They include onboard CCTV surveillance, collision warning and surround view functions, a driver anti-fatigue monitoring system and a camera mirror system.
The buses will also be installed with new colour electronic display systems at their rear to give surrounding road users clear visual signals of the bus captain's intentions, including turning, stopping and moving off.
100 per cent cleaner bus fleet by 2040
According to LTA, the awarded tenderers are ST Engineering Mobility Services partnered with CRRC, BYD, Yutong and Cycle and Carriage Automotive partnered with Zhongtong Bus.
This marks LTA's first large-scale purchase of electric double-deck buses.
Each tenderer was awarded contracts for a varied number of double or single-deck buses, with contracts ranging from S$34.5 million to S$79 million.
Earlier in November 2025, LTA called for a tender to install electric-vehicle charging systems in Mandai Bus Depot and several future integrated transport hubs to support the electrification of the public bus fleet.
"LTA is committed to having a 100 per cent cleaner energy bus fleet by 2040," it said.
By 2030, electric buses are expected to make up half of Singapore's public bus fleet.
