M'sian teen, 17, dies after 2 motorcycles collide in JB
It occurred at around 10:30pm along Jalan Ismail Sultan on Dec. 8.
A 17-year-old Malaysian boy has died after two motorcycles collided in Johor Bahru on Dec. 8.
In a Facebook statement on Dec. 9, the Johor Bahru South District Police chief assistant commissioner Raub Selamat said that the incident occurred at around 10:30pm along Jalan Ismail Sultan.
Boy reportedly flung backwards
Brian Tan Kai Lun's father, shared on Facebook on Dec. 9 that the boy was thrown backwards during the collision.
In his post, Bao Ah said that Tan was "hit from behind", causing him to be thrown from the first lane to the third lane.
He was responding to rumours speculating that Tan had ridden his motorcycle in the opposite direction on the road.
Motorcycles grazed each other, riders lost control
According to Raub, preliminary investigations found that the motorcycle ridden by Tan had grazed the motorcycle of another male rider, 23, who is a Malaysian national.
Tan worked as a food and beverage (F&B) worker while the other rider works as a cleaner in Singapore.
The two riders were moving in the same direction along the road, from Stulang towards Skudai.
Both motorcycles then grazed each other, causing the riders to lose control and skid at the scene.
Died after sustaining head injuries
They were later taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital to receive treatment.
However, Tan suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Local authorities have advised witnesses to come forward to assist with investigations.
