Public service workers in Zhejiang, China, are in hot soup after they were caught circumventing facial recognition software in a rather unorthodox way.
According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), the employees at a neighbourhood committee in Wenzhou City printed out images of their colleagues' faces and used them to bypass facial recognition clocking in systems.
As such:
SCMP reported that by wearing these face masks, one person could check in for multiple people.
Other media noted that depending on the complexity of the facial recognition system, cutouts could easily fool them with cheap masks.
In response to media queries, one of the man suspected to be involved in this scheme told reporters to ask his superior for comment instead.
