Upper Boon Keng coffee shop catches fire at midnight, about 100 people evacuated
One person was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
A fire broke out at a coffee shop at Upper Boon Keng Road on Dec. 4.
About 100 people were evacuated from the block as a precautionary measure.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed with Mothership that they were alerted to the fire at about 12:30am.
The kitchen exhaust duct caught fire.
Several food stalls sustained heat and smoke damage, SCDF said, adding that the fire was extinguished with two water jets.
One person was assessed for smoke inhalation and conveyed to Singapore General Hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the back wall of the coffee shop was covered in soot and the exhaust pipes sustained fire damage.
About 10 people were spotted outside the coffee shop in the afternoon following the fire, including coffee shop employees and nearby residents, Shin Min reported.
One employee said they left the coffee shop at about 10:30pm the day before and only found out about the fire in the morning when a supplier texted her.
She said she was unsure how long the coffee shop would be closed.
