China executive executed for accepting bribes
He was allowed to see his family before the execution.
Bai Tianhui, a former general manager of finance firm Huarong International Holdings, was executed after the country's top court upheld his death sentence.
He was charged with accepting bribes.
According to China Daily, he had initially received the death penalty on May 28, 2024. The courts then upheld this sentence on Feb. 24.
Bai was allowed to meet his family members before the execution.
From 2014 to 2018, Bai reportedly used his position at the company to secure benefits for relevant departments in exchange for bribes totalling more than 1.1 billion yuan (S$202 million).
The Supreme People's Court also pointed out that this case serves as a reminder that any corrupt behaviour will be severely punished by law.
