Woman who blackmailed Son Heung Min with ultrasound photos & false pregnancy claims jailed for 4 years
She was assisted by her ex-boyfriend, who is in his 40s.
A woman who extorted Son Heung Min with ultrasound photos and pregnancy claims has been sentenced to four years' jail.
On Dec. 8, the Seoul Central District Court handed the woman, identified only by her surname Yang, a sentence for blackmail and attempted blackmail.
The 33-year-old South Korean football star was extorted of 300 million won (S$264,755) by Yang, who is in her 20s, reported Yonhap News Agency.
In June 2024, she sent Son an ultrasound image of a foetus and threatened to go public with a pregnancy reveal pinning him as the father.
Yang never confirmed the parentage of her baby
According to Yonhap, Yang was assisted by her ex-boyfriend, surnamed Yong, who is in his 40s.
The then-couple approached Son after a different man Yang initially targeted did not respond to her threats.
By falsely claiming she was pregnant with Son's child, Yang extorted 300 million won (S$264,755) from him in June 2024, and spent the extorted money on luxury goods and personal expenses, reported Korea JoongAng Daily.
When the money dried up in between March and May 2025, the couple attempted to extort another 70 million won (S$61,753) from Son.
They threatened to tell his family and out him to the press about her pregnancy and subsequent abortion.
In June, prosecutors indicted the pair.
The bench stated that Yang never confirmed who was the father of her foetus, quoted Yonhap.
"After discovering she was pregnant, Yang never confirmed whose child she was pregnant with."
Yang was sentenced to four years' jail.
Son suffered "considerable psychological harm"
In sentencing, the judiciary noted Son's celebrity status and the harm to his reputation if the news went public, quoted Yonhap.
"The victim is a celebrity and vulnerable to crimes, and the defendants used this to take a large sum of money, which makes the crime of an egregious nature."
The court noted that Son suffered "considerable psychological pain" as a result of Yang and Yong's actions.
Yang reportedly insisted she was the victim and had received the money as "compensation", Korea JoongAng Daily said.
“But her claims do not fully match the facts. She planned the crime thoroughly, the case carries significant gravity and the victim likely suffered considerable psychological harm."
Yong had also "threatened the victim on 15 occasions to obtain money" but had confessed to all his charges and cooperated during the investigations, stated the court.
Son says goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur
On Dec. 9, a day after the conclusion of court proceedings, Son stepped out onto the pitch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for his farewell speech, ahead of Spurs’ UEFA Champions League match against Slavia Prague.
Waving goodbye to Spurs fans, Son thanked fans for supporting him during his decade in North London from 2015 to 2025, reported Korea JoongAng Daily.
The captain of the South Korea national team completed his move to Los Angeles FC on in August 2025, according to the BBC.
