Additional MFA crisis response team deployed to assist in Hat Yai: Vivian Balakrishnan
More than 600 Singaporeans have been evacuated Hat Yai.
Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan has spoken to his Thailand counterpart, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, to convey Singapore’s concern about the floods in Hat Yai, and Singapore's readiness to provide essential supplies and support relief efforts.
In a Facebook post on Nov. 27, 2025, Vivian said that he is "deeply concerned" about the situation, and the impact on the people living and travelling there.
"Over the past few days, I have been receiving regular updates from the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok which has been reaching out to Singaporeans in Hat Yai and working with the Thai authorities to bring them home safely," he added.
Vivian updated that an additional MFA Crisis Response Team has been deployed to support officers on the ground.
The floods have made moving around Hat Yai challenging, but teams are working hard to reach out to Singaporeans, expedite assistance for those who need urgent help, and arrange transport to safer areas, he said.
"Conditions have begun to improve in some parts of Hat Yai. With the help of the Thai authorities and our team on the ground, some Singaporeans have already been able to move to safety or make their way to the airport.
MFA will continue to do everything we can to ensure that affected Singaporeans receive the assistance they need."
Anwar thanks Thais for help
Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his "sincere appreciation" for Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and the Thai government for their efforts and compassion in helping Malaysians left stranded by the flood.
In a Facebook post on Nov. 27, he said:
"This prompt and thoughtful action reflects the enduring strength of our bilateral relations and the spirit of solidarity that we deeply value.
Malaysia and Thailand will continue to work closely together to safeguard the safety, welfare, and well-being of our peoples."
