Man gets entire arm trapped in kitchen drain pipe, SCDF cuts open pipe in downstairs unit to rescue him
He was conscious throughout the operation.
After a man got his entire left arm trapped in a drain pipe, a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) team held a rescue operation in the Jurong West flat kitchen to free him.
During the rescue, they removed the kitchen sink and cabinet, and cut open the drain pipe in the unit below, according to an SCDF Facebook post.
On Nov. 27 at about 1:35pm, SCDF received a call for assistance at Block 338A Tah Ching Road.
Firefighters from Jurong Fire Station and rescuers from the elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) responded to the incident.
The rescue
The man had his entire arm trapped in a drain pipe under the unit's kitchen sink, the rescue team found.
It was not specified how he ended up in that situation.
To create sufficient working space for the rescue, rescuers removed the kitchen sink and cabinet housing the drain pipe using an electric breaker tool.
A protective sheet was placed over the person to protect him from debris and dust.

Other rescuers went to the unit below and cut a segment of the drain pipe using a battery-operated saw.
This allowed them to see how the person's arm was trapped, and decide how to free the arm, SCDF said.
They then used a lubricant to ease his arm out of the drain pipe.

After he was freed, a medical team from Ng Teng Fong General Hospital tended to him on-site and applied an intravenous drip.
He remained conscious throughout the two-hour rescue operation, said SCDF.
