Singapore's Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery at Bright Hill saw parts of its roof collapse on Nov. 26, scattering many tiles on the ground.

In response to Mothership, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to an incident at 88 Bright Hill Road at about 8:35pm that evening.

When it arrived, roof tiles and a supporting roof frame was observed within the courtyard of the premises.

Firefighters and rescuers from SCDF's Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team, together with search canines from SCDF’s search platoon, conducted a search.

A person was assessed for minor injuries by an SCDF paramedic, but declined to be sent to the hospital.

Footage of the aftermath, posted on Threads, shows many broken pieces of roof tiles lying on the ground, while several men in uniform and hard hats walk around examining the temple structure.

Affected area temporarily closed

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) told the Straits Times that sections of the roof tiles and the supporting roof frame had fallen off the four-storey Venerable Hong Choon Memorial Hall, and windows of the adjacent building have also been damaged by the fallen debris.

The structural integrity of the two buildings were not affected.

However, public access has been closed off in the interest of safety.

The BCA also asked the temple to appoint a professional engineer to investigate the collapse, and take steps to making lasting repairs that can prevent similar incidents from happening again.
