'Ayah loves you': M'sian reporter dies while on his way home from reporting on Hat Yai floods
RIP.
A Malaysian reporter has died while on his way back from reporting at Hat Yai, Thailand.
Mohamad Asri Shafii, a reporter from Malaysia's Astro Awani, was in Hat Yai to report on the evacuation of Malaysians following the floods.
He is believed to have died from a heart attack, Astro Awani reported.
Asri was 49.
His wife, Norhanani Ahmad, said the last voice note he sent her was: "Ayah loves all of you, take care of yourselves."
Norhanani said that in their last conversation, Asri said that he intended to return to their home in Perlis as he was worried that the house would be affected by rising waters.
She added that her husband has a history of heart disease.
"While on his way back, my husband's car was stalled and couldn't start because of the flood.
He got out of his car and tried to push it, but perhaps he collapsed due to a heart attack."
He leaves behind six children, the youngest of whom is 11 years old.
