WhatsappU.S. House Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene announced on Nov. 21 that she will be resigning from Congress, following months of a public spat with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Once a loyal supporter of Trump, she has since become a vocal critic of a number of his stances and was recently branded a "traitor" by the president.

Her last day in office will be Jan. 5, 2026, she said in a 10-minute video posted on X.

Accusations

In her resignation video, Greene aired her grievances against the Trump administration's supposed incapabilities.

She claimed that the legislature has been "mostly sidelined" almost one year into the Trump administration and called out what she deemed an erroneous eight-week government shutdown.

She also accused the Republican party of "refusing to proactively work diligently to pass a plan to save Americans' healthcare", made worse during the shutdown due to "disgusting political drama...from both sides of the aisle".

"No matter which way the political pendulum swings, Republican or Democrat, nothing ever gets better for the common American man or woman."

The accusations also turned personal.

Greene lamented her branding as a "traitor" by Trump despite her many sacrifices made in backing his agendas, including missing her father's brain surgery to defend Trump during his second impeachment in 2021.

"I missed precious time with my family that I can never get back," she said, adding that "loyalty should be a two-way street."

"I refuse to be a battered wife hoping it all goes away and gets better."

Meanwhile, Trump claimed that Greene's about-face was motivated by his apparent refusal to back her potential campaigns for either Georgia Senator or Governor.

Backer turned 'traitor'

Greene has served as a representative in the state of Georgia since 2021, and was notably among Trump's most vocal supporters in his first term.

She once credited him as an inspiration to run for Congress in 2020, even earning his 'Complete and Total Endorsement" in 2024.

This took a sharp turn this year after Greene appeared to become a critic of Trump over issues such as the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, his administration's support for Israel in the Gaza conflict and their decisions to become involved in foreign conflicts.

Trump revoked his endorsement of Greene on Nov. 15 this year, calling her "wacky", a "traitor" and accused her of "[turning] Left (winged)".

"Marjorie “Traitor” Green is a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!" he said.

In response to Greene's resignation, Trump reportedly called it "great news", according to The Guardian.

He claimed that she had not given him notice prior to the announcement, but that "it doesn’t matter, you know but I think it’s great. I think she should be happy."
