Fire breaks out at Sembawang HDB, 2 sent to hospital

A fire broke out at Block 362A Sembawang Crescent in the morning of Nov. 21.

Popping sounds heard

According to a Mothership reader, he was out for a morning walk when he noticed the fire.

He could hear popping sounds, which he believed was the ceiling cracking, and also observed debris falling off.

The reader also said that he saw teachers evacuating students from a childcare centre on the ground floor.

About 50 residents evacuated

In response to Mothership's queries, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that it was alerted to a fire at 8:15am.

According to SCDF, the fire involved contents of a bedroom in a unit on the third floor, and was subsequently was extinguished using a water jet.

Two occupants from the affected unit were assessed for smoke inhalation and were conveyed to Singapore General Hospital.

SCDF and the police evacuated about 50 residents from the block as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
