A Brazilian social media influencer, famed for undergoing dozens of cosmetic procedures to resemble a Barbie doll, has been found dead at a townhouse in São Paulo, Brazil.

Barbara Jankavski, 31, known online as "Human Barbie", was discovered on Nov. 2 wearing only her underwear.

She also had an injury to her left eye and marks on her back, according to the São Paulo State Military Police.

Emergency responders were called to the scene but were unable to revive her.

Unexpected death

A 51-year-old attorney, Renato Campos Pinto de Vitto, told police that he had hired Jankavski for sexual services on the day of her death, according to CNN Brazil as reported by several U.S. outlets.

The man claimed the pair consumed illicit substances together and that he noticed she had stopped moving after she fell asleep.

He reportedly attempted to resuscitate her for nine minutes before emergency services arrived, according to Newsweek.

A friend later told investigators that Jankavski had earlier slipped and fallen, sustaining the eye and back injuries noted by police.

Barbie influencer

Jankavski had built a large online following of more than 400,000 across Instagram and TikTok, where she documented her pursuit of a hyper-realistic, Barbie-doll-inspired look.

She underwent at least 27 plastic surgeries costing an estimated US$56,000 (S$73,000), according to Daily Mail.

Her procedures included multiple rhinoplasties, breast and buttock augmentations, liposuction on her neck, abdomen and legs, and eyebrow lifts.

She would often speak candidly about her surgeries online. After her face lift in June, she'd openly pointed out her post-operation bruising.

In one of her latest videos before she stopped posting a month ago, Jankavski noted that the scarring from her face lift was now “almost imperceptible".

Online reaction

Her final post, a video with fellow influencer Avós Da Razão, appeared on Oct. 1.

Following news of her death, messages of shock and grief filled her social media pages.

Police investigation

Authorities have registered the case as suspicious and ordered full autopsy and toxicology tests to determine the cause of her death.

No arrests have been made so far.

Her death follows that of Iris Hsieh, a Taiwanese influencer whose “sudden heart attack” in Malaysia was later classified as murder.

A Malaysian rapper, Namewee, has turned himself in and is assisting with investigations.
