S'porean man, 50, arrested after being caught smuggling drugs through S'pore Cruise Centre

More drugs were found at the suspect's residence.

A 50-year-old Singaporean man was caught by officers from the Immigrations and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) after attempting to smuggle controlled drugs and drug paraphernalia into Singapore.

The incident occurred at the Singapore Cruise Centre on Oct. 17.

In a Facebook post on Nov. 6, the ICA stated that the traveller was directed for enhanced screening as anomalies were found in the scanned images of his belongings.

ICA Search and Examinations officers observed that the man appeared nervous and and decided to thoroughly examine his baggage.

Syringes & substance sachets found

One syringe suspected to be used for the consumption of controlled drugs, one sachet carrying a small amount of substance and seven drug paraphernalia were detected.

A swab test was conducted on the individual and the test yielded positive for methamphetamine.

The traveller was arrested and referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) for further investigation.

CNB officers uncovered more controlled drugs including five Erimin-5 tablets, three Ecstasy tablets, 3.78g of "Ice" (methamphetamine), a vape device with attached vape pod, one additional vape pod and various drug-related paraphernalia.

More drugs found at suspect's residence

The suspect was escorted to his residential unit where CNB officers recovered 15.5g of "Ice" and other drug paraphernalia.

The Straits Times reported that investigations are ongoing, according to CNB.
