Anjani Sinha was sworn in as the U.S. Ambassador to Singapore on Oct. 23.

The swearing-in ceremony took place in the U.S. at the Department of State.

"Ambassador Sinha looks forward to coming to Singapore soon to present his credentials and formally assume his duties," the U.S. Embassy in Singapore wrote in a Facebook post.

Sinha, who is an orthopaedic and sports medicine surgeon, was confirmed in the U.S. Senate with a 51-47 vote on Oct. 7.

He faced a fierce grilling during his confirmation hearing earlier in July, particularly from U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, who accused Sinha of not being up to the task.

Former MFA permanent secretary Bilahari Kausikan later called on Singaporeans not to "prejudge" Sinha and said his personal relationship with Trump could prove useful.
