Drunk woman, 39, jailed 11 weeks after slapping & trying to bite policewoman at Clarke Quay
She had been drinking wine and other strong liquor with a friend that night.
A woman has been sentenced to 11 weeks in prison after she caused a ruckus at a Clarke Quay nightclub and attacked a police officer.
Hong Cai Wan (transliteration), 39, pleaded guilty to two charges, one for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a police officer from carrying out their duty, and the other for violating the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA), Shin Min Daily News reported.
Four other charges were taken into consideration during the sentencing on Oct. 21.
Drunken night
In the evening of Feb. 8, 2024, Hong was having dinner with a friend at a restaurant in Robertson Quay, according to court documents cited by Shin Min.
After consuming two bottles of red wine at dinner, they left to drink at other establishments.
They drank several glasses of strong liquor at a bar, then a bottle of champagne at a nightclub in Clarke Quay.
By this point, Hong was clearly intoxicated, the court documents said.
Around 1am, she climbed onto the nightclub's stage and sound equipment and shouted and kicked a staff member in the chest when they tried to stop her.
Security approached her to escort her out of the club, but she continued to behave hysterically, punching the guard in the face.
After she climbed onto the reception desk, another staff member tried to stop her but got slapped, knocking his glasses off his face.
The police were called and arrived at the scene to find Hong shouting loudly outside the club.
An officer tried to calm her down while another, a female officer, grabbed Hong's arm.
Hong whipped around and slapped the female officer in the face.
The officers arrested her immediately and took her to be detained at the Police Cantonment Complex.
On the way there, Hong insulted the officers with vulgar language and attempted to bite the female officer on her forearm.
This abusive behaviour, which continued after they arrived at the detention centre, was all captured on CCTV cameras and the officers' body cameras.
For these offences, the judge decided to sentence her to 11 weeks in prison.
