Man, 39, while with his wife in MBS lift, slaps another woman's butt, gets 6 days' jail
The Chinese national had waited for people to exit the lift before molesting the woman.
A 39-year-old Chinese national was sentenced to six days' jail on Oct. 22 after he molested a woman in a lift at Marina Bay Sands (MBS).
According to court documents, Hu Guisheng slapped the woman's left buttock after briefly ogling her on Mar. 8 at around 1:34am.
Entered the lift together
Hu had left the Ce La Vi club at the MBS Hotel Tower 3 after drinking with his wife and friends, reported The Straits Times.
The group had entered the lift together with the woman, with Hu reportedly holding his wife's hand.
When the lift arrived at the first floor, the woman held the door open for them to exit first.
Hu then stood beside her as he waited for them to leave, glanced at her buttocks and proceeded to slap her left butt cheek.
The woman then tried to stop Hu from leaving and also alerted the security guard.
Hu was arrested at around 2:50am.
Offered S$5,000 compensation and wanted to make public apology
According to ST, Hu's lawyer, Peter Ong, said that his client was "remorseful" following the incident.
Hu was in Singapore on a social visit pass and was staying at MBS with his wife and friends.
He had offered the woman S$5,000 as compensation and also wanted to apologise publicly.
She rejected the offer.
Ong asked for a fine, highlighting that Hu's business was affected due to the incident.
The prosecution argued that Hu's action was "more intrusive" as he had touched the woman's intimate area, and that his financial troubles could not be considered a mitigating factor.
In delivering the sentence, District Judge Janet Wang found that there was a degree of sexual exploitation, noting that Hu's actions were deliberate and not "fleeting" as he had purposely waited for others to exit the lift before molesting her.
