2 NParks contractors deftly capture python in AMK, win praise for breaking gender norms
Sssssslay.
A pair of contractors from the National Parks Board (NParks) have won praise for their deft handling of a reticulated python at 338 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.
In an Oct. 21 Facebook video, a member of the public posted about the encounter, which took place at the base of an overhead bridge.
The two women were seen extracting the snake from the bushes, and holding it gently but firmly in front of a crowd of onlookers.
They then efficiently tucked the snake into a bag, presumably to be relocated elsewhere.

Throughout the encounter, the captured snake appeared calm (albeit quite unimpressed).
This drew comments from members of the public about the contractors' skilful handling.
"Wow! You see [those] two women [catching] a large snake. Don't underestimate women, [if men] can, so can [women]," one user remarked.
Another replied: "I'm a man but I'll run."

Removed safely
The python has since been "removed safely from the site" and sent to Mandai Wildlife Group for veterinary assessment, said How Choon Beng, group director of wildlife management at NParks.
If found suitable for release, it will be released in a forested area away from human dwellings.
Reticulated pythons are native to Singapore and play an important part in the ecosystem, including helping to control the rodent population.
Like all snakes, they are generally shy and will not attack unless disturbed or provoked.
On occasion, pythons may be encountered in urban areas. If you see one, observe from a safe distance, stay calm, and back away slowly.
Do not attempt to handle it, and keep your pets on a tight leash lest they approach and alarm the snake.
The snake should be left alone, especially if it's in its natural habitat. Members of the public who require assistance can contact NParks at 1800-476-1600.
