Around 2am one night in November 2023, a woman was delivering goods to a convenience store in Taiwan's Changhua County when she stumbled upon a friend of a friend, who asked her to give him a ride.

She initially refused and said she did not know him well, but due to his insistent pestering, she eventually agreed, Tai Sounds reported.

However, the man did not get out of her car when they arrived at his destination. Instead, he asked the woman to spend the night with him at her house.

When she rejected him, he sexually assaulted her in the car.

The Taiwan High Court sentenced the man, surnamed Zhu, to three years and ten months in prison, saying that he had violated the woman's will and assaulted her forcefully.

The incident

According to the court judgement, as reported by Taiwanese media, Zhu turned brutally aggressive when the woman rejected him.

He pinned her down on her seat, groped her, and pulled her pants down.

The woman tried to climb to the back seat to escape him, but he continued to force her down and sexually assault her, EBC News reported.

After he finally left the car, the woman, frightened and crying, called a friend to report what had happened to the police.

She later went to the hospital, where a medical examination confirmed that there were fluids matching Zhu's DNA in her body.

During the court trial, Zhu only admitted to sexually assaulting her with his fingers, while claiming that the incident was consensual.

He also claimed that she had touched him on her own accord, EBC News reported.

The court, however, found his statements to be conflicting and inconsistent, and therefore not credible.

The woman, on the other hand, was consistent in her statements to the police and the court.

Zhu tried to appeal against his sentence, but the court rejected it recently, highlighting that he never admitted to his offence and did not make any attempts at reconciliation with the woman.
