Cold, winter-like temperatures accompanied by strong winds are expected to sweep across South Korea from Oct. 27, marking the onset of late autumn and early winter conditions.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), cold northerly winds from a high-pressure system over the northwest will significantly lower temperatures nationwide, Korea Herald reported.

Temperature could drop to -7°C in some areas

Morning lows are forecast to range between -7°C and 11°C, with highs between 9°C and 17°C, though strong winds will make it feel even colder.

A cold wave advisory, the first this autumn, will take effect from 9pm on Oct. 26 in several provinces, including Gyeonggi, Gangwon, North Chungcheong, and North Gyeongsang.

In Pyeongchang, morning temperatures could drop to -1°C, with apparent temperatures as low as -7°C.

The coldest day is expected on Oct. 28, when the area may feel as cold as -11°C.

While Seoul is not expected to see sub-zero readings, the city will experience its chilliest mornings yet this season, with lows between 2°C and 4°C.

The cold spell is expected to ease by Oct. 30, when temperatures return to seasonal norms, the KMA said.
