S'pore's Sofia Anabel Rivas, 17, wins jiu-jitsu gold at Asian Youth Games in Bahrain

Singapore athlete Sofia Anabel Rivas, 17, won the gold medal for jiu-jitsu in the girls' 52kg category at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain on Oct. 29.

This was Singapore's second gold medal at the games, also known as the 3rd Asian Youth Games held from Oct. 22 to 31.

She began her campaign with a 2–0 points victory over Buyanbat Buyantsatsral from Mongolia in the quarterfinals.

She then edged out Chu Phuong Nghi of Vietnam 4–2 in the semifinals.

In the final, she faced Kapan Kamila from Kazakhstan.

The match was a tactical and closely fought contest.

After a tense 0–0 draw, the Singapore athlete prevailed 3–1 on advantages.

Singapore's first gold medal was won by swimmer Tedd Chan after finishing first in the boys’ 50m backstroke on Oct. 28.

His 25.79sec effort at the Khalifa Sports City came after he had just won a silver in the boys’ 50m freestyle a day ago.

The 2025 Asian Youth Games, officially the 3rd Asian Youth Games, and commonly Bahrain 2025, is the third edition of the Asian Youth Games, a pan-Asian multi-sport event currently taking place in Bahrain from 22 to 31 October 2025.
