Three Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) fire engines were seen arriving outside the building.

The W2 building is a "Workshop Block" for Singapore Polytechnic, according to the contractor's website.

Speaking to Mothership, the SCDF confirmed that it was alerted to a fire at 500 Dover Road on Oct. 1, 2025 at about 3:30pm.

The fire involved a storage area within a laboratory on the first floor.

SCDF extinguished the fire with a water jet.

About 25 persons were evacuated from the affected building by staff.

There were no reported injuries, and the cause of fire is under investigation.
