A Taiwanese tourist took to Threads on Oct. 17 to accuse a housekeeper at Village Hotel Sentosa of stealing S$3,000 in cash from his hotel room.

The money, left in a plastic bag, apparently went missing a day after he checked in.

Village Hotel Sentosa has since released an official statement clarifying the allegations made by the tourist.

Searches yielded negative results: Village Hotel Sentosa

In response to Mothership's queries, Village Hotel Sentosa released a statement regarding the claims made by the tourist.

A spokesperson from the hotel stated that internal investigations showed that the tourist had checked in on Oct. 16 at 12:48pm, and checked out the next morning at 11:15am.

However, at around 12:47pm on the day of check-out, the tourist contacted the hotel and claimed that he had left an envelope containing S$3,000 in his room.

The hotel said it immediately conducted "a comprehensive search of the room, its surrounding areas" and of its staff.

It also conducted a second search in the presence of the tourist after he returned to the hotel.

However, the alleged missing cash was not found in either of the searches.

Following a police report, officers arrived on site to investigate.

They conducted two separate searches, one at 2pm, and one by senior investigating officers at 6:32pm.

"Both searches yielded negative results and investigations remain ongoing," the hotel spokesperson said.

The property has been cooperating fully with the police while remaining in contact with the tourist to provide support.

Claims by the tourist

The tourist, Chang Shuoyang, said in his post that he checked into the hotel on Oct. 16, and left the cash in a Marina Bay Sands plastic bag on a counter in his hotel room.

The cash reportedly went missing the next day.

When he reported the incident to the hotel, Chang claimed he was told to search through the hotel's garbage collection, which he did until the police arrived.

According to Chang, police later found the same plastic bag in a housekeeper's locker, though she denied taking the money.

He claimed that the police subsequently brought her in for questioning.
