Newlyweds host buffet spread along Tampines HDB corridor, wins praise for keeping 'kampung spirit' alive
Homely.
A couple in Singapore, who just got married, hosted a buffet spread at their public housing block corridor as a way to celebrate their union.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the buffet party was held in Tampines on two consecutive evenings on Oct. 3 and 4, according to the couple's neighbour.
The initiative has won praise for keeping the "kampung spirit" alive.

A video of the buffet set-up was posted on the Singapore Incidents Facebook page.
It showed drink dispensers and a row of metal trays used to serve the buffet food.
There were also chairs and tables, including standing tables, along the corridor for guests.
On top of that, there were flowers and ribbons that added to the festive mood.
To date, the video has more than 1,700 likes on Facebook.
Invited neighbours
When a Shin Min reporter visited the scene on Oct. 5, the buffet items had been cleared.
The buffet's host declined an interview after learning why the reporter visited.
The banquet was reportedly held at Block 489B Tampines Street 45.
However, one of the couple's neighbours, Lin, told Shin Min that neighbours were among those invited to join in the festivities.
No disturbance
Lin added that the couple did not cause any disturbance as they did not play loud music during the buffet party.
She also said the couple had already left for their honeymoon.
After the video was posted online, commenters online praised the couple, given how the casual and unpretentious setting provided a more homely atmosphere.
They added that such a setting allowed the newlyweds to interact more with guests.
In addition, some commented that this was the "kampung spirit" that can deepen friendships among neighbours.
Alternative void deck suggestions
Others commented that the banquet could have been held at the void deck instead as the corridor appeared too narrow.
One neighbour told Shin Min that he was invited for the feast and felt that this was a rare experience to have.
He added that the newlyweds did not create problems for the residents as they cleaned up immediately after the banquet.
