Canadian man, 28, allegedly hurled vulgarities & scratched police officer at Changi Airport, to be charged with being drunk causing nuisance
He was instructed to present and place his boarding pass on top of his passport.
A 28-year-old man allegedly hurled vulgarities repeatedly at police officers at Changi Airport and scratched one of them on Oct. 5.
The Canadian national was arrested after the incident on Sunday morning.
He will be charged in court on Oct. 7.
What happened
The police were alerted at about 9:20am to a man who was allegedly drunk and causing a nuisance at the Terminal 1 public departure area.
The police said in a media release that the man allegedly used verbally abusive language on the duty auxiliary police officer after being instructed to present and place his boarding pass on top of his passport, preliminary investigations revealed.
The man purportedly ignored the instructions and walked away after repeated warnings to stop.
When officers from the Airport Police Division arrived, the man allegedly hurled vulgarities at the officers, shoved one of them and scratched him, the police said.
The officer suffered minor injuries on his arms and was given two days of medical leave.
The man could be jailed up to seven years and fined or caned for the offence of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from carrying out their duty.
He could be jailed up to 12 months or fined up to S$5,000, or both for using abusive words against a public servant.
He can be jailed up to six months and fined S$3,000 for the offence of being drunk causing nuisance.
