Three teenagers, aged between 14 and 15, were arrested on Sep. 24 following their alleged involvement in a loanshark harassment case.

In a news release on Sep. 29, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said that officers were alerted to the incident at around 3:05pm at a residential unit along Boon Lay Drive.

Unit set on fire

The teenagers had allegedly set fire to the front of the flat.

In its statement, SPF said that the main door and gate of the unit were set ablaze, while a wall near the staircase landing was defaced with loan shark-related graffiti.

Officers from the Jurong Police Division and Criminal Investigation Department identified and arrested the teenagers within six hours of the incident, through follow-up investigations and images from police cameras.

Authorities seized a mobile phone, a black marker, a black hoodie, and a pair of sunglasses as exhibits.

Investigations ongoing

Police investigations are underway.

If found guilty of loan shark harassment, the teenagers may be fined between S$5,000 and S$50,000, jailed for up to five years, and caned up to six strokes as first-time offenders.

Members of the public are urged to avoid dealings with loan sharks and to report any suspected activity.

Information can be submitted via the Police hotline at 1800-255-0000 or online at www.police.gov.sg/i-witness.
