M'sian boy, 13, steps on cat poop, wants to skip school due to dirty shoes, lies about being kidnapped

A 13-year-old boy in Malaysia has admitted to having faked a kidnapping attempt in order to skip school.

On Sep. 11, the boy lodged a police report claiming that he was nearly abducted while walking to school.

He'd informed his 37-year-old father about the matter, and they both went to the police to give their statements.

But during questioning, he confessed that he had lied, the New Straits Times reported.

"The boy admitted that the report was lodged as an excuse to his father, as he did not want to go to school because his school shoes had been soiled by cat faeces," said the assistant commissioner of police.

This brought the investigation to an abrupt halt.

Stern warning issued

As the boy is still in school, he was issued a stern warning and no further action was taken.

The case has been closed, and the boy's father has withdrawn the police report, according to Bernama.

The assistant commissioner reminded members of the public not to lodge false reports.

If convicted, offenders face up to six months' jail, a fine, or both.
