A woman in Hong Kong realised her lifelong aspiration of having a second child.

Chan Lai Lai, who is the wife of Hong Kong actor Brian Wong Chak Fung, did it at 58 years old, when she gave birth to her daughter on Aug. 22.

Conceived via IVF

According to South China Morning Post, the couple conceived the baby via in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment.

Her husband is also 58 years old.

Their elder child is also a girl.

The couple announced the news of the birth online on Sep. 6, reported The Hong Kong Standard.

Delivered baby via caesarean procedure

In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, Wong was seen cutting the umbilical cord and introducing the newborn to their six-year-old daughter, prompting a flood of congratulatory messages.

Can still breastfeed

Wong confirmed that Chan had undergone a scheduled caesarean section (C-section) at 37 weeks to deliver the baby.

He added that their newborn daughter weighed 3.34kg and remarked on his daughters' close family resemblance, describing them both as "beautiful".

Now back home from postpartum care, Wong praised his wife's ability to breastfeed at her age and reflected on the different experiences of the two pregnancies.

Underwent IVF in Taiwan

Unlike their first, the second birth was the result of IVF treatment.

Wong shared that consultations at the Prince of Wales Hospital and CUHK Medical Center revealed Chan had set a record as the oldest mother at the facility, with doctors expressing interest in studying her case.

In her journey to motherhood this time, Chan underwent IVF treatment in Taiwan.

The process came after a miscarriage the previous year and involved substantial financial commitment estimated at around HK$200,000 (S$33,000).
