Beloved community cat called Manja found dead in middle of Kent Road, memorial set up
Her memory lives on in those who loved and cared for her.
A beloved community cat in Rangoon was found dead in the middle of Kent Road on Aug. 26 at around 8:30pm.
A community cat feeder, Kelvin, who spoke to Mothership said that he suspected that the cat, who was known as Manja, was hit by a vehicle.
The police confirmed with Mothership that a police report has been lodged.
Discovered around feeding time
Kelvin said that he would usually feed Manja after 8pm daily.
He was on the way to do so that day when he received a call from a neighbour about the news of Manja's death.
Manja was first seen by a resident from their fourth floor corridor laying on the road, before they retrieved the body.
Her eyes and intestines were bulging out, Kelvin said, adding that he couldn't bear to take photographs to document the injuries.
Well-loved in the community

Kelvin, mourning the loss of Manja, said the cat was well-loved by nearby residents and was often seen roaming around drains and a bench she liked to frequent along Kent Road.
"She would greet passersby and play with children, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed her path," he said.
He added that Manja rarely crossed the road, and he is now left wondering what might have caused her to do so that day.

In the days following her passing, residents created a memorial at the spot where she was last seen.
The tributes include flowers, bowls of cat food, and a memorial poster.
Though Manja may be gone, Kelvin said her memory lives on in the neighbourhood.
"The memorial continues to grow, as residents stop by to pay their respects and share stories of the cat who touched so many lives."
