Ceiling outside Liat Towers acai shop collapses, 3 people taken to hospital
Hope everyone's OK.
The ceiling of an acai shop at Liat Towers in Orchard Road abruptly collapsed on the afternoon of Sep. 12.
A woman, who gave her name as Sim, told Mothership that she had been at a nearby Starbucks when she heard the sound of something breaking.
As she watched, part of the ceiling above the store, Swirl Lover Acai, began to collapse.
The rest of the ceiling collapsed right after, she said. The whole incident happened in a matter of seconds.
Photos shared with Mothership showed the extent of the damage.
Officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were also seen administering aid to an apparently injured woman.

Cracks on ceiling
The store appears to be situated below the ground level, just underneath a staircase and walkway leading to massage parlour Natureland.

Sim said that a friend, who had been dining at the affected area during the incident, claimed to have seen cracks on the ceiling prior to the incident.
Paint from the ceiling also started to fall onto her table just before the collapse, the friend claimed.
In the aftermath of the incident, the ambulance arrived and police officers came to cordon off the scene.
Two people — a schoolgirl and a woman who appeared to be pregnant — were seen being treated for their injuries, Sim said.
Staff members from the neighbouring shops, Starbucks and Shake Shack, also helped to call the ambulance.

SCDF's reply
In response to Mothership's queries, SCDF confirmed that it had been alerted to the incident at around 4pm.
Two people were conveyed to the Singapore General Hospital, and another person to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
Mothership has reached out to the acai shop for more information.
