On Aug. 15, the Sengkang-Punggol LRT line went down for a second time in the week.

The disruption occurred at around 8:55am.

Trains came to a standstill at Punggol LRT station and commuters were seen walking along the tracks.

Free regular and bridging bus services were activated.

Damaged back-up switch board

The disruption today lasted around four hours, according to updates from SBS Transit on Facebook.

Service on the Sengkang LRT fully resumed from 12:54pm, and free regular bus and bridging bus services have ceased.

"We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused," SBS Transit said.

In a statement by SBS Transit Group CEO Jeffrey Sim, it was revealed that the disruption was due to a power fault.

Preliminary findings suggested that a cable fault between two stations tripped the LRT network.

This cable fault affected all 29 stations along the LRT line for two hours, partly due to the lack of a back-up switch board for the power system, which was damaged after the disruption on Aug. 12.

"We are now running on only the main and single switch board. Without the availability of the back-up switch board, this cable fault caused service to be disrupted and a lengthier service recovery time," Sim said.

As a result, 10 trains stalled on the tracks today.

All passengers had to safely disembark from the trains before recovery works could commence, Sim added.
