Melania Trump threatens Hunter Biden with S$1.28 billion lawsuit for Epstein comment, Biden says "F**k that"
Biden has declined to retract his statement.
The United States’ First Lady, Melania Trump, has threatened Hunter Biden, the son of ex-president Joe Biden, for comments linking her to sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump threatened him and the YouTuber who interviewed him with a billion dollar lawsuit.
Wide and deep
The Guardian reports that Melania Trump, wife of incumbent U.S. President Donald Trump, has taken umbrage with comments made by Biden.
The younger Biden had repeated allegations that Melania had been introduced to her future husband, Donald, by Jeffrey Epstein.
The late Epstein was a financier, but would later be convicted of sex crimes, including the trafficking of underage women.
Epstein was a friend of Donald Trump, with media at the time capturing the pair on numerous occasions at social events, as well as several eyewitness accounts of their friendship.
One such account has been retold by author and journalist Michael Wolff, who has written several bestselling books about Donald Trump since Trump came to power.
In one book, he alleges that Epstein introduced Donald Trump to his future wife, Melania, as well as including salacious details of their private life.
Hunter Biden referenced these allegations during an interview with YouTuber and Journalist Andrew Callaghan, repeating the allegation twice.
“Epstein introduced Melania to Trump”, Hunter Biden alleged, “The connections are, like, so wide and deep”.
Extremely salacious
Melania Trump has fought back against the allegations, issuing a demand to Hunter Biden that he should retract his comments or face a lawsuit.
The letter alleges that Hunter Biden’s statements were “false, defamatory, and extremely salacious”, the Guardian reports.
Melania Trump’s lawyer further stated that the first lady had suffered “overwhelming financial and reputational harm” due to Hunter Biden’s comments, as they had been “widely disseminated on social media and reported by media outlets around the world”.
Melania Trump, who was a model before she met Donald Trump, has previously stated on multiple occasions that the pair were introduced by a modelling agent in 1998.
F**k that, not going to happen
Hunter Biden has since responded, again on Callaghan’s YouTube show.
Callaghan pulls a scrunched-up version of the letter of demand from his pocket, reading parts of it, and asking Hunter Biden if he wished to retract his statements.
Hunter Biden replied, “Uh, fuck that. Not going to happen.”
In the letter, Melania Trump's lawyers threaten the pair with a US$ 1 billion (S$1.28 billion) lawsuit unless the statements and video were retracted.
Hunter Biden has himself been subject to a series of allegations made by members of the Trump family, including allegations of corruption.
However, Hunter Biden has been convicted of crimes connected to firearms possession and drug use, charges for which he was pardoned by his father, the then outgoing president Joe Biden.
The elder Biden reasoned that the pardons, which he had previously said he would not issue, were to prevent his son from being further targeted for political purposes.
Retain the files
Meanwhile, Donald Trump continues to face scrutiny for his relationship with Epstein.
Despite extensive documentation of their relationship, the president has disavowed his former friend, who committed suicide while imprisoned in a New York City correctional centre in 2019, during Donald Trump’s first administration.
The suicide is regarded with suspicion by many, who believe that Epstein was assassinated to cover up his connections with powerful elites.
This conspiracy is embodied in the idea of these being a set of files which detail the connections between Epstein and these elites, and the crimes they engaged in.
Supporters of Donald Trump have long believed that if Trump were returned to office, he would release said files.
But in recent months, despite initially teasing such a release, members of Donald Trump’s administration have backed away from said promises, much to the ire of their supporters.
Melania Trump's suing of Hunter Biden is reminiscent of her husband's campaign of lawsuits against people and programs that have offended him, including media outlets such as CBS and the Wall Street Journal.
Trump has given his blessing to the litigation, and was quoted by The Hill as saying, "I let her use my lawyers".
