Have you ever heard of a luxury hotel in Pasir Ris?

You know, the one that is listed on Google Maps with an address that corresponds to Pasir Ris Camp?

Well, "Sky Marine Hotel" is touted online as a "casino hotel" in Singapore offering elegant rooms, spa and wellness facilities, fine dining, and stunning sea views.

Dubious-looking photos

However, at first glance, the generic-looking hotel pictures already look somewhat dubious and AI-generated.

For instance, why hold a snowboard? In Singapore?

The supposed address of this "luxury hotel" also sets off major alarm bells as it's located in an industrial park and along the same road that passes through Pasir Ris Camp, a protected place in Singapore with entry restricted to authorised personnel.

The listed address of Sky Marine Hotel Singapore is 93 Pasir Ris Coast Industrial Park 6, Industrial Park, Singapore 519556.

Reality

When Mothership visited the Lorong Halus jetty on Aug. 24 to check out the "hotel", this is the sight we were greeted with.

The Lorong Halus jetty is also located in a restricted area.

The jetty is set to be replaced as part of reclamation works at Lorong Halus, which will see about 49ha of land reclaimed to meet future needs, including for industrial use, according to The Straits Times.

When asked about the hotel, a security guard at the jetty laughed and told Mothership it doesn't exist.

Other red flags

There were also other red flags on the hotel's website that make this particular hotel listing suspicious.

The website, which claims it is a "five-star hotel" with "more than 8,600" guests per month, shows hotel room listings with landscapes not found in Singapore.

Some "customer" reviews" are displayed with the default "lorem ipsum" placeholder texts, and are made under different names but bearing identical photos.

The site is also riddled with spelling mistakes.

Meanwhile, a "2 minute hotel video" on the website, disappointingly links to a 14-second long clip of a person being massaged.

When Mothership tried to contact Sky Marine Hotel, the number provided on the website was not in use.

The owner of the domain is Dreamscape Networks International Pte Ltd, a domain wholesaler company based in Australia.

The domain was created on Jul. 18.

On Google, the company has an office in Singapore situated in Tai Seng, but is listed as a "carpet store".

It has a 1.1 star rating.
