Gan Kim Yong to attend China's 80th Victory Day parade: China MFA

The parade will commemorate the end of the Second World War.

According to China's foreign ministry's Director of Protocol Hong Lei, who spoke at a press conference,  Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade & Industry Gan Kim Yong will attend China’s 80th Victory Day celebrations.

The celebrations, formally called the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the War against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, will be held on Sep. 3 in the form of a large military parade.

The BBC reports that at least 26 state leaders are expected to attend, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un.

Several Southeast Asian leaders will also be present, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Many of China’s Southeast Asian neighbours will send leadership representatives, including the prime ministers of Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and even Myanmar’s acting president, Min Aung Hlaing.
