A Thai tourist, Daechathorn Thiantubtim, died after slipping and striking his head on a rock at Namtok Chan Ta Then Waterfall in Chon Buri, Thailand, on Aug. 12.

The 55-year-old was allegedly taking a selfie at the waterfall before he slipped.

He allegedly fell from the fourth tier of the waterfall

Daechathorn had allegedly fallen from the fourth tier of the waterfall and struck his head on a rock.

According to Thaiger, rescuers were alerted to the accident at 2:36pm local time.

The 1.5 kilometre route from the first to fourth tier of the waterfall was steep and covered with slippery rocks, making it difficult for the rescuers to reach Daechathorn.

When they arrived, Daechathorn had unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was found lying face down in the water and had several injuries to his face. He had also broken his right leg.

His phone, which was still attached to a selfie stick, was found nearby.

Rescuers took about two hours to transport Daechathorn's body to a hospital for an autopsy.

Another tourist recalled speaking with him before the accident

Thaiger reported that another Thai tourist, Setthapong, told local television network Channel 7 that he had spoken with Daechathorn on the way to the top of the waterfall.

He said that Daechathorn had told him not to continue making his way up as there was nothing interesting at the top.

Despite Daechathorn's advice, Setthapong continued on and later saw Daechathorn taking a selfie at the spot where the incident occurred.

On his way back down, he noticed that the area was unusually quiet and discovered Daechathorn's backpack before finding his body at the base of the cliff.
