Singaporeans made up the largest number of foreign visitors to Johor in the first seven months of 2025, clocking more than 11 million visits between January and July in 2025, according to Johor unity, culture and heritage committee chairman K. Raven Kumar, The Star reported.

More than 14 million foreign visitors entered Johor during this time, Raven said.

Although not mentioned, it is understood that the total number of Singaporean visitors include repeat visits.

“Besides Singapore, we are also seeing many visitors from Indonesia, China, India, the Philippines, European countries and South Korea," he said on Aug. 19 after officiating Bank Negara Malaysia museum and art gallery’s exhibition at Kompleks Warisan Sultan Abu Bakar.

He added: “In fact, from January until March, more than two million tourists, including Malaysians, have stayed more than one night in Johor.”

More details on figures

More details on the number of visitors from Singapore were separately revealed by Malaysia’s Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing.

According to him, a total of 10,288,256 tourists from Singapore visited Malaysia from January to June 2025.

This marked a 22.5 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2024.

The figure indicates that most visitors from Singapore end up in Johor.

Tourists from Singapore, Indonesia, China and Thailand made up the highest number of tourists who visited Malaysia from January to June 2025, Tiong added.

It was also revealed that tourists from China recorded the highest increase at 35.6 per cent, with 2,178,857 visitors between January to June 2025 compared with 1,607,413 during the same period in 2024.

Promote tourism to Johor small towns

Raven added that efforts are under way to promote small towns at 10 districts in Johor to attract foreign and domestic tourists to these potential tourism destinations.

The state government and local tourism industry players are gearing up for Visit Johor Year 2026 (VJY2026).

He said the government wants to attract 12 million tourists to Johor in 2026 by upgrading many tourism products and by organising various events.
