Royal M'sian Police's Inspector-General awarded S'pore's Meritorious Service Medal
He was presented the award by home affairs minister K Shanmugam.
Malaysia’s inspector-general of police, Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Khalid bin Haji Ismail, was presented with the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (the Meritorious Service Medal) on Aug. 18.
He was presented the award by Singapore’s Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, K Shanmugam.
Malaysian Special Branch
Mohd Khalid served as the director of the Malaysian Special Branch (MSB), an intelligence agency attached to the Royal Malaysian police (RMP).
He served in this role for two years, starting from 2023, until assuming the position of the RMP’s inspector-general.
Shanmugam, in a social media post commemorating the award, spoke about the “active and integral role” Mohd Khalid had played in enhancing the partnership between the MSB and Singapore’s Internal Security Department (ISD).
Both ISD and MSB have had substantive bilateral engagements, intelligence exchanges, and extensive cooperation, particularly regarding counter-terrorism.
Shanmugam attributed the close collaboration between the two services as contributing to disrupting the activities of pro-Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) elements, as well as other terror-linked entities in the region.
Astute leadership
A press release issued by ISD in conjunction with the award said that the conferment of the Pingat Jasa Gemilang was in recognition of Mohd Khalid’s “instrumental role” in enhancing the strong professional ties and cooperation between MSB and ISD, as well as his “significant contributions to the security of Malaysia, Singapore, and the region”.
Shanmugam paid tribute to Mohd Khalid’s “astute leadership”, attributing the “enduring warm rapport” between the two services as a testament to his “commitment to working closely with Singapore in areas of mutual security interest”.
“It is through the hard work and tireless efforts of generations of MSB and ISD officers, that Singapore, Malaysia and the region have been kept safe.”
