Car catches fire outside KKH, SMRT driver stops bus to help put it out 'without hesitation'
"Doing Right and Doing Good".
An SMRT bus captain has earned praise from netizens for helping to put out a car blaze outside KK Women's and Children's Hospital on Aug. 17.
In a dashcam footage video circulating on the incident, smoke could be seen emerging from the bonnet of a moving white BMW hatchback and the fire starting from the bottom of the car.
A separate video, supposedly filmed moments later, showed the same car parked along the road divider outside the hospital, with its bonnet engulfed in flames.
SCDF said that the incident occured around 5pm, and the fire involved the engine compartment of the car.
A bus captain, clad in a bright orange vest, could be seen attempting to put out the fire using a fire extinguisher in the second video.
SCDF said the fire was eventually put out by responders with a jet and hose reel.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Doing Right and Doing Good
SMRT Buses' Deputy Managing Director Vincent Gay told Mothership that the bus captain was driving a Service 960e bus along Bukit Timah Road when he noticed the car on fire on the opposite side of the road.
He then pulled up at the next bus stop outside the hospital, where he alighted with the bus' fire extinguisher and rushed towards the fire to help put it out "without hesitation", Gay said.
"We are proud of our Bus Captain for his brave and selfless actions," he added.
"His quick response and willingness to step forward in a time of need reflect the very best of SMRT, living out our WeCare service ethos and our belief in Doing Right and Doing Good."
