A total of nine people were arrested by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) on Aug. 19 for their suspected involvement in fixing basketball matches in a Singapore national basketball league.

In a press release by CPIB, the alleged matches that were fixed were part of the 2025 K. Star National Basketball League Division 1.

This league is organised by the Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS) and is held from Jul. 14 to Aug. 30.

The individuals arrested were aged between 19 and 35 years old.

Some players from the basketball teams participating in the tournament were among the nine individuals arrested.

According to CPIB, one of the alleged fixed matches was the game between Tagawa and Tong Whye, which took place on Aug. 1.

In BAS's Facebook post, Tagawa apparently beat Tong Whye 66 to 43.

Investigations are ongoing against the individuals for suspected offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

"Singapore adopts a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption, and match-fixing of any form is not condoned in Singapore," CPIB said.

"CPIB will not hesitate to take firm enforcement action against any parties involved, if they have given, received, or offered bribes to fix a match."

Mothership has reached out to BAS for comments.
