What happened

On Feb. 28, an employee at an electronics store in Funan Mall noticed that a S$899 router was missing, with no record of its sale.

After checking the surveillance footage, the employee found that Piot had taken the router without paying on Feb. 24.

The employee then called the police.

A week later, on the afternoon of Mar. 2, a S$2,799 laptop was discovered missing in another electronics store in the same mall.

Investigations found that Piot had entered the store between 11:18am and 11:26am that day, where he proceeded to take the laptop from its display stand and left unnoticed.

Piot also stole a pair of spectacles, valued at around S$326, from an optical shop in the same mall at 12:15 pm on Feb. 28.

For his crimes, Piot faced three charges of theft and pleaded guilty to two, with the remaining charge taken into consideration during sentencing.

Under the terms of the MTO, he must undergo psychiatric treatment at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).

Piot's lawyer said his client was willing to cooperate with the terms, though no further details were revealed about Piot's condition.
