Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong is visiting India for the third India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, to be held on Aug. 13.
Part of his working trip saw him visit Mumbai on Aug. 12, taking in two significant investments made by Singaporean companies: PSA’s Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (PSA Mumbai) Phase 2, and CapitaLand’s Investment's new data centre in Navi Mumbai.
Longest container terminal in India
PSA Mumbai is one of two government-managed container terminals operated by PSA in India, in addition to PSA Chennai.
DPM Gan toured the PSA Mumbai Phase 2 facility with the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis.
The facility is built on reclaimed land, and includes direct road and rail connections.
PSA Mumbai is the longest container terminal in India, and is designed to accommodate 4.8 million TEUs (20-foot container equivalent) a year.
Data centre
DPM Gan witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Mapletree Investments and the government of Maharashtra, committing to foreign direct investments equivalent to INR 3,000 Crores (S$440 million), in the form of industrial parks, logistics parks, and data centres.
The projects are expected to generate employment for over 5,000 people, and will be rolled out over the next five years.
DPM Gan also inaugurated CLI’s new data centre in Navi Mumbai, in which CLI invested US$453 million via its business trust, CapitaLand India Trust (CLINT).
ISMR
Over Aug. 13 and 14, DPM Gan will be attending the third iteration of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, a ministerial-level platform between the two countries, meant to drive cooperation in new and emerging areas.
The second iteration of the ISMR was held in Aug. 2024 in Singapore.
The Singaporean delegation is led by DPM Gan, and will also comprise Coordinating Minister for National Security and for Home Affairs K Shanmugam, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo, Manpower Minister and Minister-in-Charge of Energy Tan See Leng, as well as acting Transport Minister and Senior Minister of State for Finance Jeffrey Siow.
