Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing is currently in Brunei for an introductory visit from Aug. 22 to Aug. 23.

During his visit, he will meet Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, as well as the country's Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee, MINDEF stated in a press release.

He also met Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) troops who are currently training in Temburong.

Chan also shared a Facebook post of his meeting with Brunei's Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Halbi during his visit.

They had last met at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore earlier in May

Both of them had reaffirmed Singapore's and Brunei's "close and longstanding" defence ties.

Chan wrote:

"Our defence establishments cooperate closely through regular high-level visits, professional exchanges, joint courses and bilateral exercises, and our servicemen and women have forged deep friendships over the years."

The two ministers discussed the two countries' cooperation at regional multilateral platforms, such as the Asean Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM-Plus, according to MINDEF.

They also noted the recent successful conclusion of the Singapore Brunei Junior Defence Interaction Programme (JDIP), ongoing geopolitical developments and emphasised the need for Singapore and Brunei to work closely together.

Chan also thanked Pehin for Brunei's support of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) training in their country.

He added:

"Training in Brunei’s diverse jungle terrain provides invaluable experience for our soldiers, building their confidence, competence and resilience. This is only possible thanks to the special relationship and deep trust Singapore and Brunei share."
