Car skids & crashes into lamp post near Orchard Towers at 1:45am on National Day, driver 32, taken to hospital

A car crashed into a lamp post during the wee hours of National Day.

The police said they were alerted to the accident along Orchard Road towards Bras Basah Road at about 1:45am on Aug. 9.

A 32-year-old driver was taken conscious to the hospital.

He is also assisting with investigations.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Photos of the aftermath of the crash were uploaded online to the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page.

Car damaged

The post showed a yellow Honda Civic beside a lamp post.

Its bonnet was damaged, including the left front passenger door, which was dented.

A TikTok showed the moment the car hit the lamp post.

Another TikTok of the incident was shared with the caption, "Luck wasn't on his side."

"Thankfully the driver was safe and sound."

The car's left tyre was deflated.

Part of the lamp post was on the extreme right lane of the road near the Orchard Rendezvous Hotel.

Dangerous driving

In a video posted on Roads.sg's Facebook page, another car was seen travelling at a high speed before it spun and came to a stop near the same location where the yellow car crashed.

One commenter claimed around 15 drivers were seen racing each other along Orchard Road, and that Honda, Subaru and Volkswagen cars were involved.
