The man, Chen Baoyuan (transliteration), 19, and his girlfriend, Zhong Shanen, 16, were riding on a motorcycle down a mountain road in the rain when it lost control at around 3pm, skidded into an adjacent lane and hit an oncoming lorry, killing them, according to Malaysian media.
The accident
Ipoh district police chief Abang Zainal Abidin told Malaysian newspaper Kwong Wah Yit Poh on Aug. 8 that they were alerted to the accident at around 4:35pm on Aug. 7.
The accident involved two motorcycles and a lorry, said Abang Zainal.
He said a teenaged couple, aged 19 and 16 respectively, died from severe head injuries at the scene.
Another couple riding with them, aged 19 and 15 respectively, suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.
Abang Zainal noted that Chen's driving licence was found to have expired on Dec. 9, 2024.
Chen and Zhong had travelled to Cameron Highlands with the other couple for a holiday, Sin Chew Daily reported.
On Aug. 6, a picture of Chen and Zhong's holiday in Cameron Highlands was posted to Zhong's Instagram.

The two couples had planned to return to Sungei Petani in Kedah on Aug. 7 when the fatal accident happened.
Abang Zainal said that preliminary investigations showed that Chen and Zhong's motorcycle had lost control and entered the lane of an oncoming lorry, which braked but could not avoid the pair.
The other couple swerved to avoid the deceased couple's motorcycle and crashed into a ditch.
The lorry driver and passenger were uninjured, Abang Zainal said.
Paramedics pronounced Chen and Zhong dead at the scene, and their bodies were taken to a local hospital for an autopsy.
'His last words to me were to be careful': Friend
The surviving couple visited Chen's wake on Aug. 11.
Luo Zhongcheng (transliteration), the male teen who travelled with Chen, said that he and Chen were good friends and had planned the trip to Cameron Highlands together, United Daily News reported.

Luo said that during the return trip on Aug. 7, they had noticed the road was slippery and slowed down to around 50 to 60 km/h.
After Chen's motorcycle skidded and Luo crashed into the ditch, he went over to check on his friend and Zhong, who had been thrown off their motorcycle.
"I saw his finger twitch, and shouted his name. His last words to me were 'Ah Cheng, be careful'", said Luo.
Luo added that he was traumatised by the accident, and would not dare to ride a motorcycle again.
'It was so sudden': Girl's classmate
Zhong's family members were seen crying at her wake, which was also held on Aug. 11, according to Sin Chew Daily.
Zhong's father told reporters, "My child is gone, and even if I have many words, I can't say a single one".
One of Zhong's classmates said that as it was a school day, many of Zhong's classmates were unable to send her off.
"It was only a few days ago that we saw the photos she posted on social media. But suddenly, she's gone forever," said the classmate.
