Black Myth: Wukong announces sequel, will focus on Chinese deity, Zhong Kui

Creators of the critically acclaimed video game series "Black Myth: Wukong" recently announced a sequel.

On Aug. 19, Chinese video game studio Game Science introduced "Black Myth: Zhong Kui" at the Gamescom conference in Cologne, Germany.

The new project will include Zhong Kui, a Chinese deity who vanquishes ghosts and evil spirits.

The video game studio wrote on its website:

"Thanks to the unwavering support from our players, the first Black Myth title has landed safely. Upon completing the journey with the Destined One, we now aspire to take a tentative first step - to build more distinct game experiences, to challenge ourselves with bolder features, and to bring fresh ideas to our world and narrative design."

Beyond its initial announcement, Game Science has yet to announce a release date.

According to its developers, the game is currently in its early development stage.

About Black Myth: Wukong

"Black Myth: Wukong", based on the Chinese myth of Journey to the West and inspired by the antics of Monkey King Sun Wukong, launched in August 2024.

The game broke records on the gaming platform Steam and is one of the most-played single-player games in Steam's history.

The game is available on PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Windows.

It is also China's first "AAA game", a label that refers to games that are high-budget, high-profile, and distributed by large and well-established publishers.
